Residency

To ensure prompt enrollment for military-connected students who are active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves, residency for school enrollment can be established by submitting a military order indicating their transfer to a military base within or near the school district’s attendance area within 90 days of arrival.

Registering New Students 

1. Fill out New Student Online Registration application. 
2. Bring documents listed to the student's future campus. 
   • Certified Copy/Official Birth Certificate
   • Social Security Card
   • Custody or guardianship documents relating to the student
   • Proof of residency (utility bill or lease agreement showing the physical address of parent or guardian)
   • Immunization/shot records
   • A most recent report card or grade transcript
   • Valid photo identification of parent or guardian

Pre-Kindergarten Registration

Students Eligible for Pre-Kindergarten

All campuses offer full day Pre-Kindergarten

To be eligible for enrollment in a free pre-kindergarten, a child must be at least four years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year and meet at least one of the following eligibility requirements:

• unable to speak and comprehend the English language (please bring child for testing) 
• is educationally disadvantaged
• is homeless, as defined by 42 USC, §11434a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child
• is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority
• is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty
• is or has ever been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (foster care) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Family Code §262.201 or has been in foster care in another state or territory, but currently lives in Texas
• is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as:
• a peace officer under Texas Government Code §3106.002
• a firefighter under Texas Government Code §3106.003
• an emergency medical first responder under Texas Government Code §3106.004

Upon completion of online registration, please bring the following items to registration:

• Proof of qualifying factor
  •  Pre-Kindergarten income qualifiers: Most recent pay stubs or income tax if self-employed for the last thirty days
• Certified Copy/Official Birth Certificate
• Social Security Card
• Custody or guardianship documents relating to the student
• Proof of residency (utility bill or lease agreement showing the physical address of parent or guardian)
• Immunization/shot records
• Valid photo identification of parent or guardian
   

Immunization

A military-dependent student or student coming from another Texas school may be enrolled for 30 days pending the transfer of immunization records.

Child Nutrition

Almost all children of E-1, or entry-level, active service members would be directly certified for free or reduced-price school meals, as well as many children of service members up through ranks E-6. Contact our Child Nutrition department for more information. 

Extracurricular Activities

Guidance & Counseling

The Counseling  in NCISD is focused on helping students thrive academically, socially and emotionally, and get graduates equipped to pursue their chosen college, career, or military pathway. Counselors engage in the delivery of Guidance Curriculum, Responsive Services, and Individual Planning as well as provide System Support to remove barriers to student success and encourage student growth.

Military and Family Life Counseling

Military Family Life Counselors (MFLC) The Military and Family Life Counseling Program provides free, confidential, non-medical counseling to service members, their families, and survivors on or near installations. Trained to work with the military community, military and family life counselors deliver valuable counseling services, briefings, and presentations to the military community. Counselors help service members and their families navigate issues, such as improving relationships at home and work, stress management, adjustment difficulties, parenting, and grief or loss. Adult, child, and youth behavioral MFLCs are assigned to units, schools, child development centers, and other locations worldwide.

Texas is a member state of the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Militar Children.  The compact is an agreement among member states to abide by a common set of requirements related to the education of military children. They are entitled to continue enrollment at the same grade level, including kindergarten, in which the student was enrolled in the sending state regardless of the child’s age. Also, a child of a military family who moves to your district from another state that is a member of the compact and who has satisfactorily completed the prerequisite grade level (including pre-K) in the other state is entitled to enroll in the next highest grade level, regardless of age.
